Google de-indexes BMW, lets them back in almost immediately

Feb 9, 2006 - Linknet Internet News - This was a move that has to get even the most loyal Google lovers shaking their heads. Early this week Google "punished" BMW by removing bmw.de from their index because they were using questionable tactics to get traffic. The de-indexing was revealed on Matt Cutts blog on Saturday, Feb 4.

By Tuesday Feb 7, BMW had been sufficiently contrite and the site was let back in.

According to Cutts: "I appreciate BMW’s quick response on removing JavaScript-redirecting pages from BMW properties. The webspam team at Google has been in contact with BMW, and Google has reincluded bmw.de in our index."

How convenient. Google makes a point and impresses the adoring masses. Meanwhile BMW gets a ton of free publicity, is labelled as a good guy after all, and the SEO team takes the blame.

Smells like a pretty obvious PR ploy by Google.
