Here is a very useful post where Jack Spirko of Franklin Spirko Media analyzes social bookmarking sites in terms of their ability to give you back links. If you think just bookmarking pages with a bunch of social bookmarking sites will automatically give you backlinks, you are wrong. Many use the rel="nofollow" attribute in order to short circuit the passing on of link value (because this is what Google has mandated), and others use redirects that link to your site only indirectly.

Jack has analyzed about 250 social media sites for link back value and offers a list of about 20 that get at least 4 points on his rating of 1-10. The top 10 are:
